This post contains affiliate links and/or images. I don’t know about you, but it’s the after Christmas slump that gets my kids. When we are shopping, wrapping, baking and running around, we have very little down time. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the kids are busy opening gifts and then playing with said gifts. The honeymoon period ends about 4 or 5 days from Christmas. Soon, the kids get tired of their new toys and games and I am thinking of ways to keep them busy, while they are on break as well as on their now days.
This year, Caitlin and I decided to make this easy to make and super cute winter boredom buster snowman craft. It is cheap, easy and fun to make and everybody wants one! We made several for Caitlin’s friends and my family and they were a huge hit! Caitlin is looking forward to our first snow day so we can make more!
Here is what you will need:
White crew socks (the ankle sock that folds down)
2 Cups of white rice
One piece of felt (any color)
Small sewing buttons
White yarn
Small colored pom pom
Black pipe cleaners
Glue Gun or super glue
Scissors
Step One: On a flat surface, smooth out your sock. Use your scissors and cut off the toe. Go back about 3″ from the end of the toe. Set this piece aside.
Step Two: Turn the sock inside out and tie off (or stitch closed) the end you just cut.
Step Three: Turn the sock right side out and pour in your rice. You may need a but less or a bit more, depending on the size snowman you want.
Step Four: Tie off the open sock (this will be the top of your snowman)
Step Five: About 1/3 of the way down, tie a length of yarn that can go around the sock and allow room for tying it off. This makes the head and body separation.
Step Six: Take the toe piece of the sock you set aside. This will be the hat. Just put it on the top of the snowman and fold up the edge. You can secure this if you want, but the hat stays on pretty well.
Step Seven: Cut a piece of felt, approximately 1/2″ wide and 8-10″ long, (but can be longer if you have a fat snowman.) Tie around your snowman’s neck.
Step Eight: Using your glue gun or super glue, attach the pom pom for the nose, the buttons for the eyes and down the belly and the pipe cleaners for the arms.
Have fun making the snowman have their own personality. For the snowmen Caitlin made for this post, she made one with a light saber (the guy in the middle) and one with a pair of glasses, holding a tennis ball (the guy on the left).
