Are birthdays a big deal in your home? Growing up in a family of six kids, your birthday was almost just another day in the life. For my kids, I make it a point to make each birthday more outstanding than the next. For Caitlin’s eighteenth birthday this year, we decided to celebrate it in style. We decided to have a rocking birthday party at the School of Rock in Knoxville.
Music Runs In The Family
Caitlin has always loved to sing and play music. I play music in our home all the time, so she was exposed to music since she was a baby. My mom did the same when I was growing up. Just like myself and my older daughter, Caitlin has been in chorus since elementary school. She started playing the violin when she was nine and has been in orchestra since 5th grade. Again, just as her older sister and myself! A few years ago, my older daughter, gave Caitlin an acoustic guitar for Christmas. Caitlin has been teaching herself to play ever since.
A Musical Dream Come True
I have wanted Caitlin to take music lessons for a long time. Ever since her sister gave her the guitar, she has wanted to learn to play it. It wasn’t until recently that we were able to make that dream come true. We found our local School of Rock in Knoxville offered music lessons.
The School of Rock is set up so the kids can jam in a group or have a private lesson. Caitlin’s teacher, Cam, is a recent graduate of the University of Tennessee. He has a degree in music. When he isn’t teaching kids to play guitar at the School of Rock in Knoxville, Cam is in a cover band.
The School of Rock In Knoxville Treats You Like A Star
The first impression you will get from the School of Rock in Knoxville is how welcome you feel. Greg and Holly Franklin, the owners, are always there to greet you with a big smile. You can tell within a few moments they are passionate about music, their school and your child.
The layout is comfortable, giving kids the room to spread their wings while making them feel at home. The Performance Group plays in the larger stage area downstairs. The lessons are located upstairs in private studio rooms. Everywhere you look is rock and roll memorabilia, from vintage signs to signed albums.
A Rocking Birthday Party
In addition to music lessons and group jam sessions, the School of Rock in Knoxville offers summer camps for kids of all ages. And if it is a rocking birthday party you are looking for, the School of Rock in Knoxville can hook you up on that as well! You can have a karaoke or a disco party, or a combination of both. Caitlin decided to have a karaoke party with her friends from school.
When we arrived for Caitlin’s party, Greg and Holly had the party room ready for a night of karaoke! They had tables set up and were there to help with anything we needed. Greg was going to be our host for the party, and he was ready to play any song we could think of. As with many kids, especially my daughter’s group *they are nerdy and proud!), it took a while for them to get the nerve up to sing.
For the first 45 minutes or so, the kids watched Greg’s son play guitar. Boy is he amazing! Finally, Caitlin’s friend Ella grabbed a guitar and played for us. After watching the video, would you be able to tell Ella is completely self-taught? I know, right?! After Ella wowed us with her guitar playing, we finally wet our feet with “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey. After that, the time flew! The two hours for Caitlin’s party went by in a blink!
Before we knew it, it was time for cake! Of course we had to have a Doctor Who cake for a group of nerds, right? I must say, of all the parties we have had for Caitlin, her rocking birthday party at the School of Rock in Knoxville ranks right up there at the top of the list! If you are interested in lesson, summer camp or a party, just give Greg and Holly a call. If you are not in the Knoxville area, just look here for a school near you! December 2, 2016 at 8:27 pmSounds like a good music studio to learn music, but I totally disagree with the sign. If that were true, then I was too old when I was still a teenager.
