I received compensation for my work on this campaign. This post was made possible by Mom Spark Media. However, all thoughts about this cool app are my completely my own. When I turned 40, my eyesight magically began to deteriorate. It was literally on my 40th birthday that I started to squint and hold things at arms length to be able to read them. As the years fell away, I began to see more and more health issues that needed to be paid attention to. I had to get a yearly mammogram, couldn’t skip a few meals to lose a few pounds and my cholesterol started to climb. By the time I hit 50, I got to look forward to a colonoscopy, take medication for that high cholesterol and got a prescription for my frequent nighttime bathroom visits. I realized there were going to be more and more health issues to take care of as I progress through my fifties. If this sounds familiar, here are some great health tips for women our age!
6 Health Tips For Women Over 50
- Exercise: As we get older, the more important exercise becomes. For women 50 and over, you should be participating in aerobic activity like walking or swimming and strength training are good for your heart. lowers stress and blood pressure and is good for your bone health.
- Diet: Eating a well balanced diet will help with your weight as well as other factors like your cholesterol. You should have a diet that includes protein like fish, meat, poultry, dairy products, eggs, nuts, and beans and good fats like those found in animal and dairy products, nuts, and oils. Also avocados are a good healthy fat that I LOVE to eat several times a week. You should also eat carbohydrates that are found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans and you should be drinking plenty of water. The rule of thumb is that half your plate should be filled with fruits and veggies, 1/4 in protein and the remainder in carbs.
- Salt: You need to cut back. It just isn’t good for you. Find other things to flavor your food like garlic, black pepper, cinnamon and other spices.
- Sleep: As we get older, we experience changes in our sleep. We get up more often (like me to the bathroom), our REM sleep is not as deep, we nap more during the day, which affects our nighttime sleep and we have less of a drop in body temperature as we get older. By exercising, eating well, taking our medications as prescribed and cutting back on daytime naps, we can have a better night’s sleep.
- Supplements: Women over 50 should be taking calcium as well as Vitamin D. You should also have a good multi vitamin that has all the vitamins and minerals your body needs.
- Medications: I am almost 53 and am on 5 different medications and 3 supplements. The older we get, the more medicine we take. I was having a hard time keeping up with my medications until I found Medisafe, the leading app that helps you stay on top of your medications.
The Medisafe app, which can be downloaded on your IOS or Android phone, i a pill organizer and a whole lot more. It solves my issues of continually asking myself if I already took my medication or supplement for the day. In addition, Medisafe can connect you to family members (and coming soon, to your doctors), for additional support, accountability and expertise.
Medisafe actually gets to know you, learning about your unique situation. It can deliver custom notifications for appointments and refills, medication updates, personalized health recommendations and discounts. Medisafe is there to help you stay in control of your medications and health, informed and on budget. Medisafe can also correlate your blood pressure and glucose levels, showing you how your good healthy is directly linked to taking your medications as prescribed. Because Medisafe is a leader in the market, this app has brought peace of mind to the 2 million people who use it and their loved ones.
Medisafe was co-founded by two brothers who decided to create an app to help their diabetic father manage his health and medications better. Their mission to make Medisafe the app that helps you stay on top of your health and medications and be our health companion has given me peace of mind as well as my husband. Now I don’t have to keep asking him if I took my medications or not! The Medisafe app has been featured in a story in the LA Times. The story featured David Julian, who takes 26 different medications each day. Most of these medications help him manage his epilepsy. He has missed doses before, which has put him in medical danger, but with the Medisafe app, he can stay on top of all 26 of his medications! You can also take a look at the Medisafe blog, where you can read other user stories, like the one from Grace Hayes. So, whether you have just a few or as many medications as David Julian, the Medisafe app is just perfect for your needs. I received compensation for my work on this campaign.
