When it comes to gifts, I would totally rather give than receive. I get so much joy out of seeing how happy someone is when they open a gift from me. I swear, I am more like a kid on Christmas morning than the kids are on Christmas morning! If I am going to get a gift from someone, I enjoy beauty products. I am not much a girly girl, but I do like to indulge in a scrumptious bath or beauty item I may not necessarily choose for myself. One of my top 5 favorites would have to be a chocolate mint sugar scrub. I just love how soft my skin feels after I have exfoliated with a sugar scrub in the shower.
A few years ago, a friend gave me a homemade chocolate mint sugar scrub for Mother’s Day and I just loved it! If you like to be pampered and spoiled but do not have the extra cash for a spa day, try this easy to make chocolate mint sugar scrub. If you do not like chocolate or mint, you can adapt it to any scent you prefer. My daughter like citrus scrub with lemon and lime zest added in, which would totally work with this recipe. Just substitute a citrus extract or essential oil and leave out the cocoa baking powder. For that recipe, I use yellow food coloring instead of the green. This chocolate mint sugar scrub also makes a great teacher gift, administrative assistant appreciation gift, Christmas, birthday or any occasion you can think of. Heck, give it just because you like someone xoxox. Another fun gift for Mom or teacher is my DIY Dishwasher Tabs.
What You Will Need:
- ½ cup coconut oil
- 1/2 to 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup Raw Cane Sugar
- 1 tablespoon peppermint extract
- 1 Tbsp. cocoa baking powder (adding more may turn your skin brown)
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 drop green food coloring
Instructions:
- Place coconut oil in a bowl and microwave on HIGH 15-25 seconds until softened.
- Adding 1/2 cup of the white sugar as well as the raw sugar to the oil.
- Add the peppermint extract and green food coloring. Mix well until ingredients are combined and food color is evenly distributed. If your mixture is too wet, you can add the another ½ cup sugar until scrub is to desired consistency.
- Spoon scrub into air-tight containers (like these smaller mason jars) and decorate with twine or ribbon.
