There is nothing I love more than hanging out with my girls and working on a fun craft. Oh, wait, there is something I like just as much. When that craft is cheap and super easy to make! For instance, my Red White and Blue Clothespin Wreath is super easy to make and cost less than $10 to make! Well, if that isn’t worth celebrating, I don’t know what is!

Caitlin and I made this patriotic Red White and Blue Clothespin Wreath in less than an hour and it is just stunning, don’t you agree? If you are planning a 4th of July bash, you will want to have this decorative festive wreath as well!

Here is what you will need:

One 12″ wire floral wreath ($2.49 at the craft store)
One package of wooden clothespins ($1.00)
One package of red and one package of blue Rotz Dye ($2.09 each)
One can of white spray paint ($.88)
Wooden stars ($.99)
Ribbon for hanging ($1.49)
Wooden skewers ($.88)
Styrofoam cups (had these)
Hot glue gun (had this)

Step One: In two separate containers, pour 8 cups of boiling water. Add the entire package of red dye into one and 1/4 of the package of the blue dye. If you use the entire package of blue dye, it will look black. Add 25 wooden clothespins into the red container and 15 into the blue. Let sit for 15-20 minutes. Spread clothespins on a large trash bag and allow to dry completely.

Step Two: You are going to LOVE this painting hack my daughter came up with! Clip 25 wooden clothespins to wooden skewers (I just divided them onto 3), and insert the skewers into the styrofoam cup. Spray paint and allow to dry for one hour. Paint one more coat, drying for an additional hour. Genius right?!?!?! Not only does this keep your fingers free from getting paint on them, you get more coverage doing it this way. For the stars, lay them on a paper plate and spray them as well. You can also just paint them with acrylic paint if you prefer. Because the wire wreath comes in green, I spraypainted it white as well.

Step Three: Now comes the fun part! It is time to add the clothespins to the wire wreath. We put the blue ones on first, and then did 5 red, then 5 white, and alternated until we reached the other side of the blue. You are going to place your clothespins like in the picture above, alternating them high, then low, then high, etc. In order to get all the clothespins to fit, you need to squish them in there together!

Now glue your white stars onto the blue clothespins, in any pattern you like!

And then you are done! To hang the wreath, just turn it over and weave a piece of ribbon (the length will vary depending on how low you want to hang it) and tie into a knot and then a bow.
