I may be a Peanuts Brand Ambassador and provided with gratis gifts for this post, but the opinions on these fantastically fun toys are 100% mine. Oh dear Lord, if I hear my kids tell me how bored they are one more time, I think I will run away! Gone are the days when I could give the kids some cardboard and a glue stick and they would be quiet for hours! My kids are tweens now, so they are looking for a more sophisticated form of entertainment and summer fun ideas. Now my kids want cardboard, glue stick, glue guns, drills, double sided tape, glitter paint, streamers and a 100 song play list to keep them busy. And that is for just a few hours on a summer day! Sounds familiar? Let me share some ideas that will keep the kids out of your hair this summer!

Summer Fun Ideas

Make A Fort: No matter how old my kids get, they love to make a fort. When it is just too hot outside, they will gather every stinking blanket and pillow from the house and built an elaborate fort in one of their bedrooms. If the weather cooperates, they will gather every piece of cardboard along with pillows, blankets and sheets and make a huge fort outside. As a blogger, I get plenty of boxes, so I have a never ending supply of cardboard for my kids. This has always been a favorite of our summer fun ideas

Make A Slip-N-Slide: You do not need to go out and buy a cheap slip-n-slide for the kids. Insead, my husband got a $10 tarp and tacked it down with garden stakes and turned on the hose. It works just as good as the store bought version and it won’t tear up in 10 minutes.

Make A Sprinkler: Again, instead of buying a store bought sprinkler, make one for pennies on the dollar. With a few pieces of PVC pipe, a drill and your garden hose, you can make a fantastically fun and cheap sprinkler that will last the whole summer.

Make It A Challenge: My kids love to compete with each other, so I try to find fun stuff that fits into my budget they can play with. For instance, we received the Peanuts 24C” Jumbo Flying Disc from Target and the kids LOVE it! (and at just $7.99, my pocketbook loves it too!) They, along with their dad, will toss that disc all evening long. Another new favorite is the Snoopy and Charlie Brown Paddle Ball game. It takes mad skills to become an expert with this one!

Go To The Pool: Our yard is too uneven for a pool, so we head over to the local YMCA pool for an afternoon of fun. There is also a manmade beach we can visit which is less than an hour from our home. If we are going to either, we are sure to take our huge Snoopy Ride on Float, which we found at Target for just $9.99. I love that this float is big enough for the older kids. This is not your baby’s wimpy pool float!!

peanuts summer fun This is a big year for Peanuts as they are celebrating their 65th Anniversary this fall.
