I will admit, I have never been very big on going to the gym. After my first daughter was born, I had to lose about 30 pounds. At the time, my best friend was going to the gym almost every day. She encouraged me to tag along with her and within 3 months, I had lost all of my baby weight. That was the last time I entered a gym until about 6 months ago. My daughter is getting married and I need to lose a whopping 80 pounds. I knew I could not do that with dieting alone.

Working Out Is Fun! LBL? Not So Much!

I joined a gym and went once or twice a week. I felt like a fish out of water and had no idea what I was doing. I happened to connect with a woman who is a professional bodybuilder. I told her my goals and she helped me create a workout that was the perfect beginner gym workout for women and would get me results. On the days I was not at the gym, I would find activities I could join in with the family that would get me moving. Fast forward 3 months, and I have been going to the gym 5-6 days a week and I have lost 14 pounds and 10 inches!

The Uninvited Guest At The Gym

I was so excited about working out. You know, finally getting that weight off I have been carrying around for so many years. And then “IT” started to show up at the gym. Yep..my LBL. As soon as I got a moderate pace on the treadmill, I would get the urge to pee. And, yes, I have even leaked a little. Or, Picture this…you are at the park with your kids. Everyone is playing freeze tag and having a great time. And then it happens…you get that sudden urge to pee. You even leaked a little and there is no restroom in sight. Ugh! Now what? I know how intimidating it can be to start a fitness routine. I am going to be 54 this year and it has been more than 25 years since I have regularly worked out. With the help of my bodybuilder buddy and her beginner workout for women, I am doing great! I am so proud of myself! And the best part is this routine is not complicated nor does it take forever. I start out warming up on a cardio machine (the treadmill is my go-to machine) for 15 minutes. From there, I do strength training for about 30 minutes and then do 15 minutes on the treadmill again.
