Planting An Indoor Herb Garden

Also, there is a sense of accomplishment to grow something. I love to cook with fresh herbs from my indoor garden we have planted. They add great flavor to my recipes.

We wanted to brighten up our indoor garden without spending too much. So grab the kids and make this easy Star Wars fabric covered flower pots craft idea!

Non-Organic or Organic Soil? That is the Question!

I feel choosing the soil I use for my gardening projects is important. I want a soil that nourishes what I plant as well as my family. There are so many soils out there, it can be confusing to make the right choice.

I have been gardening with organic soil and plant foods for years. Non-organic soil may contain contaminates and products like Styrofoam. They also lack the nutrients and minerals organic soil has.

It Is Easy To Replant Your Herbs and Plants

These Fabric Covered Flower Pots Are An Easy Star Wars Craft Idea

These Fabric Covered Flower Pots Are An Easy Star Wars Craft Idea

We wanted to brighten up our indoor garden without spending too much. That is what makes these fabric covered flower pots an easy Star Wars craft idea!

Materials

  • 6 terra cotta flower pots and saucers
  • Star Wars fabric
  • Mod Podge
  • Clear sealing spray coat
  • Soil
  • Plant food
  • Herbs and plants

Tools

  • Scissors
  • Pencil or pen
  • Gardening gloves
  • Craft brushes

Instructions

  1. Lay out your fabric on a flat surface. Lay terracotta pot on top of the fabric. Draw an arc (horseshoe shape.)
  2. Position the fabric (right side down) so the flat end of the arc is facing you. Lay the pot so the top is to your right and the bottom is on your left.
  3. Brush a strip of Mod Podge on the pot, approximately 2″ wide. Press on fabric and smooth. Repeat process until entire pot is covered. You will have excess fabric, so you will need to trim that, leaving 1/8″ overlap.
  4. Turn the pot upside down and trim the excess (it looks like the tip of the sorting hat from Harry Potter), leaving a 1/3″ inch overlap.
  5. Pointing your scissors downward, cut 1/8″ slits into the excess fabric, making small tabs. About 6 of them should be fine. Mod Podge the bottom of the pot and press down each tab of fabric.
  6. Turn the pot right side up and pointing your scissors downward, cut 1/4″ slits into the excess fabric, making small tabs. About 6 of them should be fine.
  7. Mod Podge the bottom of the pot and press down each tab of fabric. Mod Podge the rim of the pot and about 1/2″ down, all the way around. Repeat the same process with the tabs as above.
  8. Mod Podge the entire pot, brushing it all over the fabric covered area. Let dry 15-20 minutes.
  9. Spray the pot with the clear coat (I use the matte finish) and let dry (about 20-30 minutes.)
  10. Cut your plants out of their recycled covering. Gently shake the excess soil.
  11. Mix some good plant food with your soil.
  12. Add about 1/4 cup of the mixture to the bottom of your flower pot.
  13. Add your herb plant and fill in with more of the soil mixture.

I learned that in the first six months of the year, 28,500 tons of food waste is generated. That’s a lot! So glad it gets composted so it is not actually “wasted”.

Ecoscraps Plant Food looks like an awesome product to purchase now that spring is here. I have a lot of yard work to do. I have to prepare the soil to plant pretty flowers in my front and back yard. The indoor herb garden is a project I plan to undertake this Spring too. I am going to look for Ecoscraps at our local store.

40% of apples end up as food waste
Just under half of all bakery items are wasted

Well…first of all, I learned that the company has a great sense of humor! I loved the video! I also learned that it is a smart company. It takes all of the old food that we usually throw into the landfills, and they take it full circle and make it back into mulch/dirt! How awesome is that? I really glad that I came to this page! God bless everyone!

I learned that this company began with 2 college students eating at a buffet. Before reading this, I never thought about where the produce that isn’t sold at restaurants and stores goes. Now I see that it can be recycled and used again.

Diverting food waste from landfills is a good thing. And Homogeneous granules/particles contain all of the nutrients indicated on the package.

I learned that they have a NATURAL & ORGANIC MOISTURE RETAINING RAISED BED GARDEN MIX. It is a great mix for all your containerized garden needs: pots, containers, planter boxes, houseplants. Ideally suited for all plants both indoors and out. This is what I’m going to be growing so I think I’d get this.

I learn that they recycle by collecting wasted food from stores and restaurants to convert into all natural garden products. Which is great, I don’t know why the US doesn’t follow other countries which have banned restaurants and supermarkets from throwing out edible food, and instead making them donate it.
