How To Prevent Back Pain When Cleaning The House

Prevent Back Pain When Cleaning The House

This is a sponsored post and I have been compensated. This post may contain affiliate links and or images. However, all opinions are mine. Chronic back pain is no joke. I have dealt with it for more than 30 years. To say it cramps my style would be an understatement in many ways!

If I am on my feet for too long or doing a lot of bending or lifting, I am in trouble. I can be on the heating pad and taking medication for days.

If you are a busy mom, you have to work around your aches and pains. You cannot relax on the sofa while taking care of your kids or the house.

I have had chronic lower back pain for years, but I cannot stop taking care of my home. That is why I found these tips How To Prevent Back Pain When Cleaning The House

Cleaning Can Be A Pain

If you are a neat freak like me, cleaning the house is something you do many times a week. I do many jobs in a week most people only do on a monthly basis. I clean baseboards, change sheets, dust and do the floors every Saturday.

That is why I have learned how to prevent back pain when cleaning the house. Here are my top tips to avoid hurting yourself while keeping the house tidy!

How To Prevent Back Pain When Cleaning The House dishwasher

Dishes: With four of us, two being teenagers, the sink has a never ending supply of dirty dishes! I can get a back ache from standing too long or bending down or reaching up.

I use a padded cushion at the sink which makes a huge difference. When bending and reaching, engage your abs and use your toes to stabilize you when you reach those top cabinets!

How To Prevent Back Pain When Cleaning The House bed

Beds: This one can wreck my back. I always get y husband to help on this one. If I can’t, I walk around the bed so as not to reach to far. I keep the sheets on a lower shelf in the linen closet so I don’t need to reach so far up.

How To Prevent Back Pain When Cleaning The House baseboards

Baseboards: If I keep these cleaned on a regular basis, I only need to dust them weekly. I have a duster with a longer handle to reach down. This helps me avoid behind or crouching down.

When it is time to scrub them, the whole family helps and we make a game of it. We crank up the music and sing loudly and laugh a lot. The time flies!

How To Prevent Back Pain When Cleaning The House floors

Floors: Cleaning floors can be a killer on your back. Believe it or not, you could hurt your back just from using a mop or vacuum. Lugging around a heavy vacuum or mop bucket and the repetitive motion of use can have your back aching.

If you have to go up and down stairs, you are toast! If you must lift, plant your feet a hips width apart and life with your leg muscles and engage those abs.

When moving the mop or vacuum back and forth, walk back and forth instead of leaning forward and back. This can strain your muscles.

When possible, use a machine that does the work for you, like the spectacular products from Nugeni! I love that I can clean many areas of my house with just one product!

Say Good Bye To Allergens

The AllergyAware filtration system of the Nugeni STEVA+ steamer diminishes dust and irritants from the air. Without the use of chemicals, the STEVA+ can also eliminate 99.9% of bacteria.

Best of all, thanks to its super-heated steam, you’ll hardly have to put in effort while cleaning with it. It can get through grime with no scrubbing. This is such a lifesaver on my back! That steam lifts the dirt from my floors like nothing I have ever used!

I have used the Nugeni STEVA+ steamer on my kitchen and bathroom floors as well as the outdoor grill. I love how clean the hand held steamer gets the curtains and drapes. No more going to the dry cleaners with my bedroom drapes! I have also used it on the mattresses as the steam has the power to kill dust mites!

I use it all the time to clean as well as deodorize around the toilet. I can sanitize, deodorize, and eliminate up to 99.9% of germs and bacteria with only water.

Everyone in the family has allergies, so with the Nugeni STEVA+ steamer using no chemicals, no one gets bothered! I cannot wait to purchase the vacuum to clean even more!

I need to get a vacuum like this. Mine is too heavy most days for me to use it.

I wish I was still working. Then I could afford to have a cleaning service come in.

This machine should be named The Maid!!
I’ve had a lot of back pain since the doctors found a tumor on my back. They tried to remove it, but all they could do was decompress it. They let the chemo and radiation do the rest. I also have had a stem cell transplant. Each year my back just keeps getting worse, so a machine like this one would be a huge blessing to me! My husband and family do most of the housework. I am stubborn and like my house cleaned at all times. I am still a perfectionist at times. Thank you for sharing!

I wish I had the vacuum and tools you have because I know what it’s like to suffer from chronic back pain. I live by myself so I do all the house cleaning and it takes me awhile to clean my house because I do have to sit down after awhile because I’m hurting so bad.

Whenever I’m cleaning I have to remind myself: Lift with you knees, not your back.

These are all great tips. A friend of mine even injured their back while taking their clothes out of the dryer. I am a fitness instructor and teach weight training. I am a stickler on showing people the correct way to lift for functional training. Also, these cleaning products by Nugeni look top notch! I will certainly be checking out this brand when I need to update my cleaning tools.

I do make my bed by going around it. Bending over is hard on my back.

Vacuuming definitely sets off back pain for me. It isn’t even the lifting, it is the turning and forward and back motion.

Some good ideas here, unfortunately back pain is almost impossible to totally relieve when doing housework. The way I deal with it is a little at a time, if I tried to clean my house in one day, I’d be in really bad shape at the end of it. Some of the things I did was buy a lightweight steam mop and a lightweight cordless vacuum and I clean my bathrooms a little every time I use them so I don’t have to do it all at once.

You have some really great tips here. I wish I could keep up on my housework but have little use of my arms so dusting, window cleaning, vacuuming and scrubbing are really out of my range. I generally have to let it go until I can hire someone to come in and do my cleaning.
