When I was growing up, my mom raised and trained Irish Setter dogs. We had two rescue Setters, Sean and Tuffy. Sean was so big, my sister and I thought he was a pony for years!
Sean was too large to be a show dog. Tuffy had a health condition that kept him from competition. We loved them wholeheartedly. All the pets I have had as an adult have been rescues. We have two cats we rescued when they were 4 weeks old. I write about Meep and Hazel a lot. Even though I grew up with dogs, I have always thought myself to be a cat person…or so I thought!
Recently, my daughter had to move quite suddenly. She could only keep one of her two dogs in her 1 bedroom apartment. We could not fathom her fostering one of the dogs out while she looked for a larger place to live. As worried as we were about the cats feeling broached upon, we welcomed Elvis in our home. Elvis has made the transition like a champ! And the girls are getting used to having him around too!
