This is a sponsored post. I have received compensation, either monetarily or in product. With that said, the opinions herein are 100% my own. I have been around pets all of my life. My mom raised and trained dogs, so we always had a pack of dogs running around the house, especially in the summer. My sister and I were mom’s helpers when she was training. We would grab whatever she needed for her training session, making us feel super important. It also instilled in us a laundry list of tips when caring for dogs. I am a cat person, so I have incorporated her advice while taking care of my Hazel and Meep. We are a PetSmart family and many of mom’s tips are in the Pet Parent Resource area. If you have furry babies at home, you may benefit from mom’s and PetSmart’s summer tips for pet owners.
4 Fun Summer Tips For Pet Owners
Water, H20, Aqua = Hydration: Keeping your pet hydrated in the summer is imperative. This especially holds true for puppies and kittens. During the summer, we add ice cubes to the pet’s drinking water. They love the refreshing way to cool off. When you are out with your pet, take a portable water bowl and cold water with you. If you are taking the dogs out for a walk, make sure there is shelter nearby if you are out in the prime hot times of the day, which is between 10 and 3.
Dogs + Other Dogs = Friends: Dogs are social animals and love being around other dogs. My daughter has Elvis and Ringo, so they can play with each other. If your pup is a loner, take him to a PetSmart Doggie Day Camp. They will be able to run off their excess energy, be around other dogs and be inside with the air conditioning!
Pool + Puppy = Fun: We had kiddie pools in the back yard for the dogs to play in and cool off. If you have an in ground pool, there are a few tips you want to adhere to. Take things slow, because not all dogs are initially comfortable in the water. If you are going boating, be sure to have a life vest for your dog, which you can purchase from PetSmart. Keep your pup’s ears dry so they don’t get an infection. Take them to the PetSmart Grooming Salon for regular checkups.
Car + Safe Travel =Excitement: Hitting the road with your pet this summer can be a really enjoyable experience. Just like with the pool, make sure you go slowly with getting your dog or cat accustomed to being in the car. Cars get hot super quick in the summer, so do not leave your pet alone inside the car. Be sure to take your dogs for a walk periodically on your road trip and bring plenty of cold water for them to drink. Keep your puppy safe with car accessories like the Top Paw® Pet Safety Harness or Top Paws®Seat Belt Strap. For your kitty cat, PetSmart has the Whisker City® Soft Sided Carrier and Petmate®Compass Fashion Pet Carrier.
