This post is sponsored by General Mills, but the thoughts and opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links and/or images. Which holiday is your favorite? And what is your favorite thing about that holiday? I love both Thanksgiving and Christmas. But if I had to choose a favorite, it would be Christmas. There is something magical about it, don’t you think? I love the lights, the tree, and shopping. But most of all, I love spending time with my family. Baking with my daughter, using recipes my mom and Gram used, is the best!
One common theme in my mom and Gram’s recipes was the use of Bisquick. It was in their recipe for biscuits, pancakes, pizza dough and desserts. Caitlin and I get a kick out of taking their recipes and putting our spin on them. A family favorite was Gram’s Lemon Pound Cake. Her recipe was like this Betty Crocker Bisquick Lemon Pound Cake. For the holidays, Caitlin and I tweaked that recipe. We came up with our soon to be famous, Orange Chocolate Pound Cake With Ganache Drizzle!
Because we do so much cooking and baking during the holidays, I stock up on the essentials, like Bisquick. I always head to my local Sam’s Club. I know I will get everything I need at a price that won’t bust my budget. I can get my General Mills baking and snacking items for less than they would cost at our local grocery store. It is so convenient to shop in one place for the ingredients I need for our recipes. Need some baking inspiration? Head over to the Sam’s Club Recipes for ideas!
Sam’s Club is my one-stop-shop when I am feeding my family of four or a huge holiday crowd! Every Saturday, Caitlin and I spend the day shopping. We save shopping at Sam’s Club for last. We have fun shopping there, and it is across the street from our favorite restaurant!

After we shop, we have lunch! I had some of the ingredients for my Orange Chocolate Pound Cake With Ganache Drizzle at home. Sam’s Club had everything else I needed. To make the Orange Chocolate Pound Cake With Ganache Drizzle, you will need:
- 3 cups Original Bisquick™ mix
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
- 6 eggs
- 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 orange, seeded
- 2/3 cup whipping (heavy) cream
- 1/2 tsp. orange extract
- 1 – 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips (for thicker ganache, add more chocolate)
- 3 tablespoons grated orange peel
For cake:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 1 bundt or 2 (9×5-inch) loaf pans. Grate orange peel and set aside.
Peel orange and take out seeds. Puree in food processor.
Mix dry ingredients in mixer.
Add remaining ingredients.
Mix ingredients together.
Pour into pan.
Bake and cool 5 minutes. Turn pan upside down onto wire rack and cool cake completely.
For Ganache:
In 1-quart saucepan, heat whipping cream and remove from heat. Stir in chocolate and orange extract. Heat until melted. Let stand about 5 minutes.
Drizzle ganache so it flows evenly over top and down the sides of cake.
On Thanksgiving and Christmas morning, we have Grandma Peggy’s 4-Ingredient Breakfast Casserole. The day after, we always make french toast. While we were at Sam’s Club, I picked up a bag of Member’s Mark french bread. It is perfect for our french toast! I always have leftover Chocolate Ganache. I thought it would be delicious drizzled over the french toast! Yum! And I was able to use the eggs, heavy whipping cream and orange zest I had left from making my Orange Chocolate Pound Cake With Ganache Drizzle.
To make the French Bread French Toast, you will need:
- 1/2 loaf Member’s Mark French Bread
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 tbsp. heavy whipping cream
- Chocolate Ganache
- Orange zest and powdered sugar to garnish.
Slice Member’s Mark French Bread
Beat eggs and add heavy whipping cream
Dip Member’s Mark French Bread slices into egg mixture. Add to heated skillet. Turn after about 1 minute.
Place bread on plate.
Drizzle Chocolate Ganache and garnish with orange zest and powdered sugar. Serve to your hungry morning after the holiday guests and enjoy!
