I am super glad the holidays are over, everything is packed away and we can get back on a schedule. As much as I enjoy indulging in all those rich and delicious holiday foods, it can mess with your gut. Too many sweets and fatty foods can also pack on the pounds, and who needs that, right?! With the New Year, it is time to get back into a healthier way of eating. When it is super cold outside like it is right now, I love a yummy soup recipe.
If it can be a healthy soup that also tastes great, I am even more excited to make it. If you want a delicious buttery slice of heaven to serve after this soup, you will want to make my Traditional Pound Cake Recipe From Scratch.
With this Spicy Chicken Sausage and Cabbage soup recipe, you get a hearty soup that is packed full of flavor but not calories. By substituting a high calorie pork or beef sausage with chicken, you are slashing your calories in this recipe. Also, by making it tomato instead of cream based, you are saving even more calories. The result is a happy tummy that won’t turn into a fat tummy! Serve with some hot whole wheat bread and you have a delicious meal the whole family will love!
- One pound of chicken sausage links
- 1 cup of sliced mushrooms
- 1 chopped cabbage head
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 2 cans tomato sauce
- 1 can diced tomatoes
- Combine all ingredients in your crock pot
- Cook on low for 3-4 hours
- Top with shredded cheese and serve
What is your favorite go-to cold weather comfort food?
That looks delicious. I’m a big fan of cabbage, and anything spicy is good.
This looks so yummy! I haven’t tasted sausage with cabbage before so this will definitely be something new for me.
sounds really good, thanks for the post I have to try it.
I may have to try this …thanks for sharing.

This is a dish my Hubby would love! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Sounds very hearty and comforting!
Sounds very good. I love just about anything with cabbage in it. This would be a great recipe to make since it’s been so cold out lately.
I think I have all the ingredients for this already. I love stews and especially anything with cabbage in it.
Stews are a personal favorite and I don’t get to make it often, can’t wait to give this a try
I’m not a cabbage fan, but this looks delicious! Thanks for sharing this awesome recipe
That sounds absolutely delicious. I love anything with cabbage.
This looks like a delicious recipe. Today is the perfect day for some nice hearty soup.
I’d like to make sausage and cabbage stew for my husband. I think it’s a great flavor twist that he’d like to try.
This recipe looks so simple but so tasty! I’ll have to talk to the hubs about adding this into our future meal plans!
I love a good cabbage soup so this looks perfect for me. I like the addition of the chicken and then just a tiny bit of cheese. I’m all about the spice too.
This looks yummy! Can’t wait to make it!
Great photo! Love the closeup shot! This looks tasty and healthy!
Mmmm that looks really good! It would be really great on these cold days we have been having lately.
Looks really good! Will have to make this.
I’ve never tried a stew like this before. I love chicken sausage and would like to eat more cabbage so I will be trying this one out!
I’m a strict vegetarian, but wow! That looks utterly amazing. Stews are perfect for cold days like this, too.
In the cold weather season, I tend to gravitate towards
soups and chili more often. One of my favorites is White Chicken Chili – it’s
so creamy and spicy.
Our favorite cold weather comfort food are beef stew and chili. The husband actually cooked chili again last night.
That dish looks really hearty and delicious. Like Hilesha, I don’t eat meet but this looks great.
Ohh the dish looks super yummy and fulfilling to have! Yumm!!
This sounds good. It is getting a little too hot for it but I am still noting it to try later.
That does look like a yummy cold weather soup. However this week we had 4 days above 100 degrees so no soup right now.
This recipe couldn’t be easier and it looks very tasty. One of my cold weather recipes is a spicy macaroni and four cheeses.
