This is a sponsored post. All opinions are mine. How healthy is your relationship with food? Mine has been unhealthy since I was a kid. For as long as I remember, I have been sneaking food, bingeing, restricting and dieting. his has been going on for more than FORTY YEARS! That is too long. If you were in a relationship with a human this unhealthy, you would have sent them packing long ago. So, why has it been so hard for me to break free from food addiction and emotional eating?
In her mind blowing book, Bright Line Eating: The Science of Living Happy, Thin, & Free, Susan Peirce Thompson, Ph.D has the answer! I finally found how you can live a happy, thin and free life! I know you are skeptical. It is OK. I was too. But it is not you! Your brain may be blocking you from losing weight! Not sure if this applies to you? Take the quiz on this page to find out.
After reading her book, I am convinced she is on to something that works. Like once and for all. No more obsessing with food. God, I have spent so much time thinking about freaking food. I am so over it. I am exhausted. If you are in an unhealthy relationship with food, Susan is throwing you a lifeline. I urge you to take it. You can learn to free your brain from food addiction.
So, what is a bright line? It is a solid and clear boundary you cannot cross ever. Period. No discussion. Let’s say you want to quit smoking and say you are going to smoke in moderation. That is a murky boundary. There is no clear point you go from moderation to too much. It is too easy to tell yourself wherever you are, you are in moderation. Nope. Too fuzzy. You need a bright, clear line that says you are not drinking with no exceptions, ever.
So, what is a bright line for food? Here is where you will want to strangle me, but it is OK. I get it. I wanted to find Susan and hit her in the noggin with her book, Bright Line Eating: The Science of Living Happy, Thin, & Free! But, after I read the section a few times and chewed on it, I knew she was right. Once I accepted her truth, I was ready to move forward. It was freeing and life changing. For the first time in years, I felt hope. I felt I could release this extra 75 pounds forever. [You want to release the weight. Let it go. If you lose it, that opens a door for you to find it again. We do not want any of that!]
There are four bright lines:
1. Sugar
2. Flour
3. Meals
4. Quantities
I know. I know. You are screaming, “NO SUGAR or FLOUR?! I will die without them!” Friend, keep eating them and I fear you will die if you do. Sugar and flour are highly addictive. Susan has found consuming sugar and flour actually changes the brain. It rewires it to ensure that we will continue eating more and more of both. So, theses are bright lines I view as if there is a land mine on the other side. I am borderline diabetic. If I cross these bright lines over and over, my chances for a long, healthy life diminish. I am not willing to risk not seeing my kids have kids and their kids having kids.
While you take a breath and digest the “No Sugar, No Flour” information, I have good news! Susan strongly advises you DO NOT EXERCISE while practicing the “Bright Lines” way of life. I know, right!? I asked Susan about this. She explained it this way: “This may come as surprise, but I strongly encourage Bright Line Boot Campers not to exercise during the Weight Loss Phase. Pushing yourself to exercise depletes a tremendous amount of willpower, leaving you vulnerable to making poor food choices later. Poor food choices that can do more damage to your weight loss goals than the exercise was beneficial. I have seen hundreds and hundreds of people reach their goal weight by following the food plan and leaving exercise out of the equation. Once they have reached goal weight and good eating habits have become automatic then I encourage any physical activity that brings joy.”
