This post was sponsored by DePuy Synthes as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central, however all opinions expressed in my post are my own. For as long as I can remember, my mom was an active woman. When we were kids, if she took us to the playground, she was climbing the monkey bars with us. If we were playing softball, she was jumping up and down in the outfield. She also loved to hike, ride bikes and take long walks with my dad.
Lack Of Mobility Robs You Of Your Joy
As we began to see mom lose her mobility, we began to see the joy disappear from her life. Little by little, mom was losing the ability to enjoy her favorite activities. Mom enjoyed playing on the playground with her grand kids. As her knee pain worsened, she was not even able to stand and push them on the swings. Also, she was not able to ride her bike, walk her favorite paths in the woods or hike. It was heartbreaking to see mom begin to lose her enjoyment and zest for life.
The Breaking Point In Mom’s Health
Mom lived in a two-story apartment, with her bedroom on the top floor. As mom’s knee pain progressed, it became more difficult for her to make the walk up the stairs to her bedroom. We came over for a visit and I noticed a stack of blankets and pillows in the living room. When I asked her about it, she told me she could no longer make it up to her bedroom. She had been sleeping on the sofa for weeks. We both knew this was the breaking point for mom’s health.
Making The Decision For Knee Replacement
After much discussion with the family, mom decided to see her doctor about her knee. The doctor said mom would be an excellent candidate for knee replacement surgery. I worked on the joint replacement center at a local hospital. Our director was able to get mom information on the procedure and the recovery. After considering the information she had, mom decided to have the surgery done. It was the best decision she could have made!
Get Your Freedom Back After Joint Replacement
Mom said she had concerns about the recovery period after her knee replacement. As I was taking her to a physical therapy appointment, she said she her recovery was going well. The therapists had given her exercises to do at home and she was already able to go up and down five or six steps. They said she would be sleeping in her own bed in no time! Within weeks, mom was back to doing the things she loved! She was taking the kids to the park, cooking and baking and walking and hiking in the woods. She was back to her old self again!
