Have you ever struggled with living an unhealthy lifestyle? Sadly, this has plagued me for 2/3 of my life. When I look back, I wasn’t as affected by it as I have been in the last decade or so. I think the older I get, the more I want to be healthy for myself and for my family. This year, I was so embarrassed when my doctor told me I was pre-diabetic. When I heard that, I made the decision to make changes in my life and get healthy once and for all. I will admit, the process seemed daunting, but I took a step back and realized if I focused on the big picture, I may be less likely to be successful.

Tips To Get You Healthy..Once and For All!

  1. Setting Goals: You cannot begin a journey until you know where you are going. After my doctor and I discussed my pre-diabetes, we make some solid goals for me to follow. I wrote it down in a journal and broke them down into manageable sections. After that, it made getting healthy more doable.
  2. Be Accountable: The next thing I did was to find an accountability partner. I am someone who needs to be supportive and get support. We both downloaded a fitness app that allows us to track our food, water and activity levels. We can comment on our posts to encourage one another. We also created a Facebook group where we could share recipes and tips and relevant articles we find.
  3. Change Your Attitude: I have always considered myself to be a positive person. I began to start and end each day with that I was thankful for. I write down or meditate on all the things I am blessed to have. This includes my and what it can do body, my health and even for the healthy, slim body I will have. I am all about speaking my world into existence and that includes seeing myself successfully living my new healthy lifestyle!
  4. Get Moving: I hate to exercise! The idea of joining a gym terrified me. I finally found a gym where everyone was welcome and most of the people were trying to get fit and healthy, not bulk up and be a bodybuilder. And we have a free fitness trainer, and she set me in the right direction. Again, helps with the knowing where you are going thing! Also, I have my daughter going with me, which makes it more fun! Now I enjoy going to the gym and am there 4-6 days a week!
  5. Change What You Drink: I do not like to drink water. This made it hard for me to get the adequate hydration I needed. I bought an infuser bottle and put fresh fruit in the bottle. This was a huge game changer for me! If I drink 3-4 of these bottles a day, I am good to go! Oh and the soda? Dump it! Even if it’s diet soda! And no more fruit juices! Eat the fruit, don’t drink it (unless it’s in your infuser bottle!)
  6. Change What You Eat: In the past, I used to eat a lot of red meat, fried foods and not many fruits or veggies. I have completely turned that around and even eat a vegetarian meal several times a week. I also plan what I eat, so I don’t get caught off guard. I portion out my snacks in ziplock bags, so I can grab one on the way out the door. I also choose my meals wisely. When I am too tired or busy to cook, I make sure I have something healthy and quick in the house to eat. For me, this includes plenty of my favorite Healthy Choice Cafe Steamer meals.
